Kinja'd!!!

This old girl got some love today, heck probably the best detail it’s received over the last 19 years. As I shared yesterday, this is my Grandmothers’s 2001 Grand Prix GT. Not lacking any free time lately, I thought it would be fun to revive the paint on this car. All of our cars are fairly new and in good condition, so I was looking forward to playing with something that’s in rougher shape.

Kinja'd!!!

Here was my process:

Wash wheels/tire with Adam’s Wheel Cleaner/Rubber Clean

Foam Cannon using Adam’s Car Shampoo

Griots Garage Clay Bar

Completely Dry

Correct Paint using Griots Garage 6" Random Orbital with GG Complete Compound on Orange Correcting Pad (Not fully corrected, needed a Microfiber Pad for this)

Topped with Adam’s Brillant Glaze then Buttery Wax

Finished with Adam’s Detailing Spray and Tire Shine

Interior & Windows can wait for another day

It was fun seeing the results come to life, I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome. I got to use a lot of the products I’ve accumulated over the years but rarely use, like Buttery Wax (don’t need to wax our ceramic coated cars).

A quick interior detail will follow tomorrow and address some things under the hood. All in all, this car seems pretty solid and can hopefully serve someone well in the future. My Grandmother loves this car and wants to keep it, but in reality, she hasn’t driven it in over a year and we’ll likely sell it soon. If anyone is looking for a solid W-Body, Holla at your boy!

I do too, that’s a sharp car! Honestly, I gotta say it though, I never did like that wheel. 3 spoke wheels always look weird to me.

I reckon the US cranked out some real pigs around that era, but that one’s sort of unique and handsome. I don’t mind it. It’s not a 3.8-i-can’t-believe-it’s-not-NA V6 is it?

Also we get Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Stout down in Aus for some reason. It’s alright ;) Most of the Murican beers posted here we don’t get.

I like weird things so these wheels appeal to me but totally get why some don’t. I might also like them more because you rarely see them optioned on these.

Oh you’re very correct about, a lot of cars, especially American were kinda crappy back then. This one at least looked good (imo), drove nicely, and was mostly reliable. I always preferred foreign cars but have a soft spot for this.

This one has the N/A 3.8 V6. 200-ish Horsepower. Smoothly lumpy torque motor, not a revver,

This beer is..interesting. I like it and was lucky my friend got me some..but don’t know if I’d buy again.

Haha, oh no. I hate those engines. They were in like 2 decades of Commodore, always hooked up to an auto. Always with a fat cannon out the back. You can always tell when someone is trying to be cool in their shitty ecotec VT, it’s a sound that never leaves a man.

I was always confused at how a 2001 Commodore 3.8 had more displacement than my 1990 300ZX’s 3.0 V6, was newer yet made less power. But they’re probably torquier and definitely simpler and more durable. My mum’s Lexcen has done some 400,000km on its 3.8

I’m a long time Pontiac fan (also, malaise era Lincolns) something about that red/orange dash lighting. I’m weird. This makes me want to know how much you’d have to have for it. It’s beautiful.

The red dash was always kinda cool. I think it looked better than weird green lighting a lot of the other brands were doing during the same era. I’m thinking I’ll probably ask around $3000 but not sure yet.

That’s almost as tempting as the 40k miles prime Panther we just got in at the dealership. The customer wants to consign it for 6500 (clean book is 5k) But, where will you find one that nice? It’s a Grand Marquis Ultimate. So, basically a Lincoln without being a Lincoln. I feel 4500 is the real money but damn. I want that thing so bad. With the car business the way it is, I am feeling like that is a bad move. Sad Hooker is sad.

Oh man that sounds mint! I hoping Miata prices fall a little but they won’t haha

It is super mint. But, I cannot justify 5k for a 15 year old vehicle during these times. No matter how nice it is! Sadly. Also, inexpensive Miata? Never going to happen. My mom picked a non running, hole in the roof, moldy low mileage unit up last year for 3k. We got it running quick but put about 1k of parts into it. We did all the work ourselves.  Now, it’s a great ride but with 60k miles original it still brought that much money with all those issues.
